Tony Payton Jr.

Tony has spent most of his career in government.  Most recently Tony served as Deputy Secretary for Community Affairs and Development for the Department of Community & Economic Development in the Wolf Administration.  In this position he responsible for over one hundred million dollars in grant funding to communities throughout the Commonwealth.  In addition, he oversaw and managed all Federal programs including CDBG, CSBG and ESG funding. 

 

Tony served for six years in the Pennsylvania  State House of Representatives, representing Philadelphians of the 179th Legislative district.  Elected in 2007, Mr. Payton has served on the Health and Human Services, Professional Licensure, Transportation and State Government committees.  His tenure in the Pennsylvania State House of Representatives has allowed him to develop the skill and relationships needed to deal with the complexities of government.

Prior to his public service, Mr. Payton worked with low-income families to improve their personal finances and achieve dream of home ownership as a housing counselor and in the mortgage industry.  

After leaving elected office, Mr. Payton served as an associate at the public affairs firm Malady and Wooten, LLP, Mr. Payton reapplies the skills and insights garnered from his career as an elected public servant to benefit his clients. He has relationships with legislators from both political parties, and a keen understanding of the legislative process.

 

Mr. Payton enjoys devoting free time serving the nonprofit community as a board member of City Year Greater Philadelphia, The Fairmount Park Conservancy, Mastery Charter Schools and Philadelphia Youth Poetry Movement.  He also is a Big with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Southeastern Pennsylvania.
